June Events and More

Wednesday 10th June There is no Hebrew or basic Judaism this week.

Today, Friday June 5th sees the 42nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Six Day War, an event that is still shaping the middle east.

This Saturday June 6th we celebrate the Bar Mitzvah of Kevin Carr. Many of you won’t know that Kevin is a star rugby player with local club Whitecraigs, based less than a mile from the Shul. Kevin follows in the footsteps of his dad, Colin who also played for the club many years ago.

Kevin has promised another top performance from the Bimah so come along and show your support!

Prize Giving

Sunday 21st June, Prize-giving and last day of Cheder before the summer holidays.

Caroline Kennedy will be performing in the Shul Sunday 15th March from 3pm onwards.

She is a top class singer and this is a chance to see her at GRS and an opportunity not to be missed.

Caroline has a BA in French & Drama and MMus in Concert singing, Caroline has been accepted, with a scholarship, to continue RSAMD study on the Masters of Opera course.

Caroline graduated from the University of Kent with a BA Hons in French and Drama July 2007.In addition to her University music scholarship; she was awarded the Kent Music Prize by Dame Anne Evans for substantial contribution to music. She obtained a Pg Dip in Performance from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and is currently studying for MMus Performance also at the RSAMD under the tuition of Margaret Aronson. In September 2009 Caroline has been accepted with a scholarship to continue her study at the Alexander Gibson Opera School, RSAMD.

Caroline has had the privilege of singing in a variety of locations. Her Erasmus year was spent in Lyon, where she studied under the tuition of Isabelle Germain of the Lyon Conservatoire. She is the winner of numerous awards, most notably the first prize for both Opera and Folk at the Oxford Music Festival and a finalist in the Frank Spedding Lieder Competition.

Caroline has sung in some wonderful settings, from solos at Canterbury Cathedral and St Martin InThe Fields to the stage of the English National Opera for Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. She has been working with Bampton Classical Opera Company for several years and last summer she was the soprano in a quartet in Romeo and Juliet at both the Buxton Opera Festival and St John Smith Square.

Since September 2007, Caroline has performed in the chorus of Eugene Onegin, Cosi fan Tutte, Les Dialogues des Carmelites and as one of the Ladies in the The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at the Edinburgh International Festival. She has recently performed Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in Glasgow University Chapel. She has also taken part in master classes with both Malcolm Martineau and Julius Drake.

Future engagements include chorus for Cunning Little Vixen (Child Vixen), Eliogaballo and The Flying Dutchman for Grange Park Opera Company.

Tickets are only £5 and the performance will last fro about 90 minutes with a break in which refreshments will be served.

There is Torah chanting at 10am sharp most Saturdays which alternates with reading. Why not call the shul for more details?
