Shabbat Resouled: a perfect 10!

“uplifting and joyful”, “fantastic”, “really enjoyed it”

Members of GRS enthusiastically welcomed the return of musician Dean Staker and Student Rabbi Elliot Karstadt, part of Shabbat Resouled—a musical project based in Finchley Progressive Synagogue in London—for the Shabbat evening service on 4 May, following their successful visit last month for our communal Seder.

Inspired by folk and pop genres, Mr. Staker has set familiar liturgical chants and songs such as “Barchu”, ”Lecha Dodi”,  “Adon Olam” and many more to modern tunes, accompanied by acoustic guitar, and ably performed by Mr Staker and Student Rabbi Elliot with joy in the spirit of King David’s Hallelujah (Psalm 150).

Following the service, the congregation enjoyed supper and further musical treats from Mr. Staker and Student Rabbi Elliot. Eileen Carroll, events convener, thanked the visitors. Comments from members included “the best thing the Shul has done”!

Thanks to Karen, Eileen, Jean, and Janice for the lovely food, and all who helped serve and clear up.
