Youth provisions at GRS revolve around our weekly Cheder lessons that offer children aged 7-13 a basic knowledge of Modern and Biblical Hebrew as well as introducing them to core Reform Jewish values and principles. We have various age groups in cheder, and we provide help for each level as needed, according to the child’s ability and pace. Our cheder teachers team works with various resources to enrich the learning experience and enhance it. Cheder children also take part in some services through the year.
For more information about our Cheder, our curriculum, our teachers and our work please email or call the GRS office.
Every other month GRS holds a ‘Tots Shabbat’ service aimed at our very young members . This is a 20 minute service with songs, storytelling and a light supper.
During the High Holy Days we offer a Family Service.
As a member of the Movement for Reform Judaism our children to have the opportunity to take part in Netzafon, RSY Netzer’s new and exciting programme of events and activities for the northern communities. It is a chance for our younger members aged 4-8 and 9-10 to get together, to enjoy the RSY-Netzer environment in various locations and to have lots of kef (fun) all year round! The programme includes sports, creative Jewish education and and team building tasks.
The synagogue is supported by a visiting RSY Netzer youth worker who organises topical and cultural activities. We also try to attend events held in Manchester and Leeds as regularly as possible, as they are always fun and a great way of meeting Reform Jewish children.
We are proud to represent Reform Scottish Jewry, and hope to provide children with interactive and exciting Jewish experiences.
