Michael Levitt is the Member of Parliament for the riding of York Centre in Toronto. He formerly worked as a partner and Vice President of Business Development for the Benjamin Group.
Michael immigrated to Canada from Scotland with his mother at age thirteen. He received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from McGill University, and earned a master’s degree in Science and Technology Studies from the University of Edinburgh.
In parliament, Michael is a human rights advocate, serving as the Chair of the Subcommittee on International Human Rights, and as part of the Raoul Wallenberg Parliamentary Caucus on Human Rights. He also sits on the House Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development.
In addition to his work on human rights, Michael is a strong advocate for the Jewish community and Canada-Israel relationship in Parliament. He serves as the Chair of the Canada-Israel Interparliamentary Group, which works for greater friendship and goodwill between Canadian and Israeli parliamentarians and further cooperation between both countries.
He is a founding member of the Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee, a multi-partisan organization dedicated to activating the grassroots Jewish community in the political process, and has been an active volunteer with many non-profits and charities. Michael has served as a board member on the Koffler Centre for the Arts, the Jewish National Fund, Mount Sinai Hospital, and other organizations.
Michael is married to Barbi and has two children, Casey age 17 and Jessica age 16.
