On Saturday evening 11 March GRS commenced its Purim festivities, with about 50 members in attendance. The evening began with Havdalah and the Evening Service, where the Megillah was read by Jackie Henderson, Simon Taylor and Sarah Freeman.
Following the service we were treated to a delicious Purim meal catered by Linda Wolfson and her team. Prior to pudding there was a performance of an entertaining musical Purimspiel written by Scott Chase. Scott drew on his experiences of living in Denmark, working with Øresunds Limmud, and based his Purimspiel on the Nordic Noir TV series ‘The Bridge’. Congregants acted out the various parts, including Saga Esther and Morten Kaj. Everyone sang along to songs based on Swedish and Danish Eurovision winners, with hilarious Purim lyrics written by Scott.
A wonderful evening was had by all, with some great costumes worn by attendees of all ages. Thanks to all who contributed to a successful event!
On the following day the GRS Cheder had an additional Purim celebration, with making of masks, mishloach manot bags, and a costume competition.
