GRS had a lovely Shavuot this year. The bima was adorned with paper flowers, courtesy of the children at Friday’s Shabbat Club and organised by Noralyn Divers. On Saturday evening Fiona and Howard Brodie led the Erev Shavuot service, which was followed by a substantive meal (not just cheesecake, but also blintzes, soup, and an assortment of fruits and salads). David Goodman then led a tikkun leyl Shavuot study session that began with the origins of Shavuot observance, with a discussion that progressed (and wandered) into many more topics. Sunday’s services, led by Eileen Carroll and Natalie Millar, introduced some new (spur of the moment!) GRS traditions: percussive accompaniment (by all) to the Hallel prayers, and a group aliyah, with everyone holding a paper flower!
