Shavuot 5777
Congregants eagerly awaiting our Erev Shavuot service

For Shavuot this year, Fiona and Howard Brodie led both the evening and morning services. As is tradition, congregants brought flowers to decorate the bima. We even had a couple of trees and greenery on the floor of the sanctuary! After the evening service we partook of a traditional dairy kiddush–a good selection of cheesecakes, with a dollop of rice pudding for good measure 😉

Following this, Fiona led our Leil Tikkun on the topic of Leadership. With some excellent discussion that moved from Torah through Jewish texts to current events, including the General Election, Trump, the US Constitution, and royal succession in Scotland and England. We didn’t last all night, but our enthusiastic discussion didn’t end until after 10pm!

We reconvened the next morning for services, where we read the Book of Ruth and Torah (which included the Ten Commandments), followed by Yizkor.
